Catholic Online (10/22/11) asks “Were comets the source of
the Earth’s oceans?”

This online article was a nice overview of the role of
comets and the Oort Cloud of comets that encloses our solar system in supplying
the waters for the Earth’s oceans. This concept is now widely accepted by
planetary scientists. Unfortunately, the
online article failed to mention how the Bible in a number of passages refers
to this concept several thousand years before science has come to learn of it. For example, Job 38:22-23NAS refers to the
comets of the Oort Cloud when it asks, “Have you entered the storehouses of the
snow, Or have you seen the storehouses of the hail …” And Psalm 148:4 referring
to comets as “waters,” says “Praise him…ye waters that be above the heavens.”
On October 19, 2011 NASA announced that it found evidence
for an ongoing comet bombardment in the nearby star system Eta Corvi. They spotted a bright ring of dust around Eta
Corvi which indicates the collision of a massive comet with a planet. They also found a more massive ring of dust
at the far edge of the Eta Corvi system that seems to be a reservoir of cold
cometary bodies similar to the Kuiper Belt of comets that leads up to the
Earth’s Oort Cloud. This directly
supports the “comets brought the ocean’s waters “scenario called for by the

Only in the last fifty years has scientific knowledge of
comets caught up to the specific information contained in the Bible about
comets. Note that NASA’S recent analysis
of satellite images of Comet Hartley 2 show that the water of comets can have
the same chemical signature as the water in the Earth’s oceans, comets can
carry poisonous chemicals such as cyanide, and comets can be surrounded by a
cloud of hail stones weighing up to 100 pounds, all of which directly support
information given in the Bible. “THE
